Namkha Drime Rinpoche, from whom he received many heart transmissions of the Ripa Lineage, including the Tagsham Yeshe Tsogyal practice. Khenpo also received a myriad of vast and profound teachings from his root guru, Kyabje Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche. Khenpo Sonam came to the United States in 1999 and he and Tshering established Lhündrup Chöling (named by Kyabje Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche) in Los Angeles, California, in 2008.
